Goin' to Kona

Liner Notes:The store of how Ironband wound up in Kona. No, it wasn't our triathlon or athletic prowess.

It starts to happen, about this time each year
The list of qualifiers, pushin' their big gears
They're countin' days til' they hit Ali'i Drive
And into Kailua Bay, they can't wait to dive

I had high hopes, to get myself a slot
I'll kill from the swim to run, at least that's what I thought
It didn't happen, I never left my granny gear
No way in hell that I will ever see that Pier

Then something happened, not easy to explain
Now we're packing guitars, countin' our stars, and boardin' a jet plane

We're goin' to Kona, can you believe?
We're goin' to Kona, can it really be?
Couldn't qualify as triathletes, the lottery was a bust
Then Ironman called, and said "hey guys, come rock this beach for us!"

We'll hit the ground, head straight to Lava Java
Grab a cup of joe, or maybe find a pina colada
Head to the Village, hob knob with all the pros
Pretend we're there, to race them toe to toe

Cruise the beach, scope out all the parties
Dance with a hula lady, hang with all the carnies
Watch the race, at the finish line we'll wait
Rock the after party, where everyone celebrates

Then something happened, not easy to explain
Now we're packing guitars, countin' our stars, and boardin' a jet plane
