In only its second year, Rock the Parkway has already reached “rock-star” status. With just over a week to go race directors were forced to cut off registration for the half marathon, 10K, and 5K at nearly 6500 participants in an effort to keep the numbers manageable, and the rock-star treatment intact, for each and every participant.
Starting and finishing at Burns & McDonnell and benefiting Science City in Kansas City’s Union Station, Rock the Parkway will treat runners to a beautiful course along the city’s fabled Ward Parkway and around historic Loose Park. After crossing the finish line athletes will be treated to a fantastic finish line festival and a music spectacle by none other than KC’s favorite 80’s band, The Zeros.
McGonigle’s is located at roughly the two and 11 mile markers of the half marathon, and at the two and four mile markers of the 10K course, so keep your ears open and your eyes peeled (*note – those mile markers are, indeed, all located at the same spot lest you think that we’re planning to pick up our guitars and amps and sprint from mile two to mile 11).
In addition to cheering on the athletes and providing musical entertainment, we are also honored to cheer on all of our friends, and Megan’s family and friends, running in honor of Megan McBride Franz and raising money for the foundation in her name at the MD Anderson Cancer Center. Look for the Team Megan tent near the finish line. Go get em’ Team Megan!
Spectators: if you’re looking for some prime front-row seats for all the action, stop by McGonigle’s and join us at “Camp Ironband!”
Visit the rocktheparkway.com for more information and race results after the race. Good luck runners – we’ll see you out on the course!
