Come out to Clinton Lake State Park in Lawrence and watch all the action as the athletes compete in the Olympic Distance (1.5k swim / 40k bike / 10k run) and Sprint Distance (500yd swim / 13mi bike / 3mi run) on the challenging terrain in an around the park.

Ironband will be undertaking a challenge of our own as we attempt to keep the athletes entertained and motivated on the course while performing musical calisthenics on stage during our set.

We had a blast yesterday and loved all the thumbs up and smiles – we hope that we provided a little musical “relief” in the heat of your impressive running efforts.

Thanks also to Runner’s Edge and Girls on the Run who were “lucky” enough to host aid stations adjacent to the stage – hope we weren’t too loud for you! Cheers to Lululemon and their enthusiastic gang of cheer’ers too!

The video includes some of the captured video and audio highlights of the morning – if you ran, you’re probably in this though it may be a fleeting glimpse of your head as you ran by our stage (unless you did a cartwheel in front of our stage….then you might actually see yourself…I’m just sayin’…).

Ironband officially kicks off the 2013 “World” Tour this Saturday as we make our third appearance at the Rock the Parkway Half Marathon and 5K.

Rock the Parkway Half Marathon/5K

We’re honored to be making our third annual appearance at this popular event presented by Burns & McDonnell that runs along gorgeous Ward Parkway in Kansas City.

This year we’re moving to the 5K turnaround at 83rd & Ward Parkway (halfway for 5K, miles 2 & 12 for the half marathon) so we can “entertain” the 5K runners in addition to the half-marathon runners. In addition to Ironband the runners will be treated to music by She’s a Keeper at the starting line, The Philosophers near the half-marathon turnaround, and our friends Rattle and Hum will be rockin’ the finish line festival. Our Singer’s Birthday!

We don’t actually have a gig on Scott’s birthday but our good friends, Perpetual Change, are playing at Fuel in Overland Park, KS on his birthday. Come out and watch PC rock the house and wish Scott a happy birthday. You never know, you may get your wish and see Scott sit in on a Barry Manilow song!

The KS 5i50 race moves to Clinton Lake this year, site of the infamous Ironman 70.3 Kansas race that occurs a few weeks later. Come try one of the most challenging and fun bike courses in the area on a slightly less-intimidating scale than the 70.3!

We’re baaaack! The Ironman Kansas crew either can’t get enough of us or can’t get rid of us but we are honored to be invited back to play our fourth annual Ironman Kansas race – come tackle one of the most challenging and most rewarding 70.3 races on the circuit and push yourself through the run to the tunes of Ironband! A warm congratulations go out to the Alexander family on the new addition to the family; with the birth last week of of Lani and Crowie’s return Melbourne to defend his title at the Ironman Asia-Pacific Championship this month we thought it would be a good time to whip up a little tune/video about the man himself.

While he may not have taken home the title at this weekend’s race we have to say that a 3rd place finish, in those conditions, against that field, just a few days after becoming a father for the third time – well, that’s a win in our books.

2013 Rock the Parkway

Who is ready to kick off the 2013 race season? Have you shaken the winter cobwebs off or did you diligently keep up your workout schedule over the “off-season”?

We’re working on shaking off our own winter cobwebs and excited to kick off the 2013 World Tour in April with our third appearance at the rockin’ Rock the Parkway Half Marathon and 5K on Saturday, April 13th!

Once again the fine folks at McGonigle’s Market will be hosting us so you can expect to see, and hear, us at roughly 2/11 mile markers on the half marathon course. Stop by after the race and hang out with us at McGonigle’s and pick up some tasty smoked meats and treats!

We’ve been adding quite a few songs to the set list, many that you all have requested, so you can look forward to hearing plenty of new music on the race courses, bars, beaches, basements, and street corners the 2013 tour!

Heartland 39.3 Series

If you haven’t signed up for Rock the Parkway yet and you heard that the event is sold out; fear not – there are still a few select spots for anyone who a) signs up for all three races of the Heartland 39.3 series or b) wants to help out a great cause by registering to support Girls on the Run and compete as a “SoleMate.”

Your choice – suck it up and run all three half marathons or support a fantastic organization that is committed to helping young girls become strong, confident, and positive young women.

We had a great year, saw many smiling faces, and played shows ranging from an indoor triathlon to half marathons to half Ironmans to the Well with our good friends, Perpetual Change, to the Power & Light stage for the Tour de BBQ to multiple events in Kona for the Ironman World Championship.

Our thanks go out to the event directors and bar owners for having us play at your events and to the rest of you for indulging us and allowing us to have a good time while, hopefully, entertaining you.
